Our Theme song “The Ballad of the Carolina Theatre” is much more than a catchy tune. It is about real down home people, their small mining town in the western mountains of North Carolina and their only theatre. Today the Carolina Theatre is still the only theatre within two surrounding counties and is in desperate need of major renovation for the sake of preservation. The challenge for all of us is tremendous, but with supporters like YOU, we can and will achieve our goal.
Why is your financial support so important? In the ‘40’s and ‘50’s the grand stage of the Carolina Theatre was home to the live radio show; “The Carolina Barn Dance”. Every Friday night the show broadcast to 551 stations in the U.S. in every state but Washington. It featured performances of many country legends: Patsy Cline, Kitty Wells, Hank Snow, the Carter Family, Bill Monroe and Carter & Ralph Stanley, as well as our local legends Lulu Belle and Scotty Wiseman, Red Wilson and Robert Lominac, just to name a few.
We believe country music lies at the very heart of our culture and as proud Americans; it is our responsibility to preserve our heritage. That is why we say “The Carolina Theatre is a gem not found in any mine”.
We earnestly ask that you take this opportunity to help. Your financial donations, large or small, are tax deductible and goes toward preserving the theatre and its grand stage. As President of the Carolina Theatre Preservation Association, I would like to ‘Thank you’ in advance for your support and for helping us save the Carolina Theatre, home of the original “Carolina Barn Dance”.
